What To Do With Oh Lover! // An Herbal Syrup

I've been getting a lot of questions regarding just what to do with the Oh Lover! syrup I make and sell in the shop.  So I decided to put to put together some recipes for you.

The beauty of medicinal syrups is the extent of their use.  You can add them to any drink you'd like, or simply take them as is.  Oh Lover! is a delightful mix of soothing herbs, comforting vanilla and honey.  The base of Oh Lover! is made up of Rose Hips, which have long been used to combat colds and other illnesses due to it's abundance of Vitamin C.  Damiana is a herb traditionally used to calm the mind and act as a natural aphrodisiac.  Oatstraw, is considered to be extremely helpful when battling anxiety while also increasing sexual potency and heightening the physical senses.  So not only can this syrup be used to inspire passion and intimacy, it may also aid in calming the mind while boosting immunity.

Lovers In The Storm // a play on the hurricane classic, Dark 'n Stormy

2 oz dark rum
5 oz ginger beer
6 dropperfuls Oh Lover! syrup

Place your liquids in a shaker or jar with a lid and mix thoroughly. Place ice in two separate glasses and pour out your concoction. Serve with a lime wedge.

Serves 2


Eve's Apple // a mocktail

4 oz apple cider
4 oz ginger ale
6 dropperfuls Oh Lover! syrup
8 pitted cherries, halved


Sugar Rim

1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
A pinch or two nutmeg

Optional :: add a powdered herb like Maca or Ashwagandha to the mix for a medicinal kick.

Add liquids to a cocktail shaker or jar. In a separate bowl, place your cherries and muddle slightly, then add to your liquid mix. Shake well. Wet the rims of your glasses with the cider using your fingers or a cloth. Add ice and pour mixture, straining out the cherries.

Serves 2


Hot Toddy

8 oz hot tea of your choice (try chamomile, linden, ginger, passionflower)
2 oz brandy or whiskey
6 dropperfuls Oh Lover! syrup


Let tea steep for suggested time on tea box then add syrup, spirit and honey to taste. Serve with orange slice.

Optional :: add a pinch or two of powdered cinnamon, nutmeg or cardamom.

These recipes are not only meant for romantic love but also to be consumed with friends and at your own leisure. Remember that while having a partner is glorious in many ways, it is more important to grow independently and share love with yourself. I so wish that this was instilled in us more as we grow up as there is so much beauty in being single that we don't often hear about. We praise people for getting married, we buy them gifts, shower them with cash and drink to their union. But what about the single folk determined to make a difference without that support of a romantic partner? What about those who choose to separate from their significant other when they recognize that their relationship may have become stagnant, stifling or even abusive? Several years ago, I exited an extremely toxic relationship yet still felt shame in being alone. Even after the breakup, I held onto him for years afterwards, devoting so much energy into my heartache and his games that I barely left room for myself to grow. Why do we do this to ourselves? Call me cynical if you'd like, but I now find so much beauty and strength in being "alone".  I have found love since that one partner, someone who has challenged and accepted me in ways I didn't know I wanted/needed. Someone who encouraged me to act independently and grow as a writer, herbalist and person. And while we recently decided to end our romantic relationship, I am so grateful to know that there is supportive love out there and more importantly, that I can be satisfied - dare I say, happy - to be single.

So for all the single folk out there this coming Valentines Day, know you are strong and not in any way alone. It took me a while to figure that out but once I did, I began to find so much joy and relief in this independent time of growth.

And for all the lovers, enjoy it. Laugh a lot and be kind to each other.



Calm & Cozy Hot Chocolate


 This cocoa is a fantastic aid in helping to ease the stress of the holidays and possible winter humdrum's.  Made with NERVINES*,  ADAPTOGENS** and O'Lover! elixir, this is the perfect beverage to cozy up with on a snowy night and binge watch your newest Netflix obsession.

O'Lover! is made up of damiana (an aphrodisiac) in addition to oatstraw, which is considered to be a helpful when dealing with depression or anxiety. The base of this syrup is organic rose hips which are a great source of Vitamin C. By adding this tincture to drinks or taking it as is, you are providing yourself with a beautiful tool to carry you through winter darkness and chills.

**ADAPTOGEN - Herbs that help your body adapt to stress while strengthening immunity




2 cups milk (any kind you like. But you can also use 1 cup water & 1 cup milk to decrease richness)

3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon Ashwangandha powder

1/2 teaspoon Reishi mushroom powder

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

A pinch of pink salt

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons O'Lover!

Honey or raw sugar to taste

((OPTIONAL)) A splash or two Amaretto


Put all ingredients (not including honey, O'Lover! or Amaretto which will be added at the end) into a small sauce pan and whisk over a low heat until mixture runs smooth. Pour in desired amount of honey and stir. Transfer to your favorite mug and add O'Lover! and Amaretto.
